Vision + mission

Our vision & mission is to follow the commands of Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to keep all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Disciples making more disciples (2 Timothy 2:2) is accomplished through the expositional study of scripture, serving one another as a church body (Romans 12:3-8), encouraging every Christian to bear witness of Christ by living holy lives (Romans 12:1-2), and unashamedly preaching of the power of the gospel of Jesus to a lost world (2 Timothy 4:1-2; Romans 1:16).

Our History

In 2007, Pastor Doug Sommer began a Bible study in a home with just a small handful of believers. He and his family drove 80 miles round-trip each week to teach and serve, with a desire to plant an expository, verse-by-verse Bible-teaching church in the Sky Valley community of Monroe, WA.
On May 11, 2008, Calvary Monroe officially launched, meeting Sunday evenings at the Monroe Senior Center. In September 2009, the church moved across the street to the Boys & Girls Club and began holding Sunday morning services. In February 2024, the church purchased a building in downtown Monroe and held its first service there on March 10. As part of this new chapter, Calvary Monroe became Calvary Bible Church, a name that more clearly reflects the church’s longstanding commitment to the faithful teaching of Scripture. Since then, Calvary Bible Church has continued teaching the Bible book-by-book, serving Monroe and the surrounding communities with an emphasis on the full counsel of God’s Word and living out the Gospel in everyday life.
Through the changes in name and location, the mission has remained the same: to bring glory to God by rightly dividing the Word of God and through the proclamation of His Gospel.
